I AM

Earlier I wrote a blog called Jesus’ Initiation.  I wrote about how his initiation was coded in the bible.  In this blog I am writing about how we all play the role of Jesus in our own lives.  This is going to be another touch subject but in this day and time, it is needed.

The title of this blog is “I AM.”  God and Jesus both said “I AM” in important parts.  For example, God told Moses to tell the pharaoh to let his people go.  Moses asked God what he should say to the people to get them to follow him out of the clutches of the Egyptian pharaoh.  God replied in Exodus 3:14 “…I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.”  In like manner, Thomas asked Jesus how to know the way to follow.  Jesus relied “…I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

If you are like me, you’re asking what this has to do with anything?  Let’s take a look at John 5:19-20.

¹⁹ Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

²⁰ For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

Jesus claimed to be following the footsteps of his father (God).  Wouldn’t God be everyone’s father?  According to Jesus, God is everyone’s father when he was asked how to pray.  He began with “Our Father (Matthew 6:9).

If Jesus is following the footsteps of the father, why aren’t we?  Someone will argue that we aren’t Jesus.  Yet when Jesus questions the Jews, he asked them “Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are Gods?”  The quote is written in Psalms 82:6 “I have said, Ye are gods, and all of you are children of the most High.”  The Jews knew this statement was written in their scriptures.  There must be a different meaning.

One problem is the Holy Bible is more than a Christian book.  It is a character building book written to assist people with their lives.  Therefore, each person is to play the position of Jesus or another prophet.  Many of us have gone through similar situations as Jesus and other characters in the bible.  What the bible is telling us is how to handle certain situations when they arise.  Remember there is nothing new under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9).

Thus, the “I AM” phrase in the bible is referring to YOU.  If you can comprehend this, you will read the bible in an entirely different fashion.  Statements like give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and God what is God’s takes on a different meaning.  Caesar is the entire society whereas God is you.  There are certain things that we have to do in society.  However, we create a better life for ourselves by simply changing the way we think and acting upon our thoughts.

With this in mind, all acts begin with a thought.  The way you think is you.  So your mind is you.  Subsequently John 1:1 takes on a different meaning.  John 1:1 states that, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”  From what I just explained God is the mind and the word is the way you speak.  In other words, the way you speak to your inner self is absorbed in your mind.  Your words become your habit.

This is why when someone asks you who you are, your usual response begins with I am.  We must be cautious when using the phrase I am because we can become very egotistical.  By studying Jesus’ journey, you will see the need to subdue your passion.  Just because you know something, doesn’t mean you have to brag about it.  If you do, you will definitely be crucified by those who don’t like you.
